CEU Course Description
Behavior analysts within the field of applied behavior analysis (ABA) apply research as a means for creating and implementing evidence-based procedures that are effective in a multitude of settings, including schools, homes, and the community. These procedures have been used to address behaviors associated primarily with autism and other developmental disorders. However, the principles that have been used within these approaches are also effective with other populations and within a variety of settings. Children can be exposed to various safety threats that could result in harm. These threats could include abduction, poisons, and even injuries sustained from firearms. Therefore, it is important to teach children to recognize when a threat to one’s safety is present and how to engage in behaviors that will increase their chances of responding to ensure their safety. Additionally, safety can be a huge concern within an organizational and community setting. Behavioral safety can contribute to safety in different ways and be applied in a variety of industries. Therefore, it is important to determine the underlying causes of injuries and intervention methods that can be implemented. In this course, participants will learn to (1) discuss research on teaching safety skills to children, (2) identify different approaches to the assessment and training of safety skills, and (3) discuss behavioral safety and the behaviors that behavior safety can be targeted and applied to.
